Covering 12,000 square miles, the San Juans offer plenty to explore. Straddling the Continental Divide, this range features rugged volcanic summits, with 13 peaks towering over 14,000 feet. These mountains formed when two continental plates collided, pushing through the Earth's crust.

This breathtaking range includes some of the most rugged and dramatic peaks in the U.S., with 28 summits above 9,000 feet and 13 over 14,000 feet, totaling 653 named mountains.
